Due to a unfortunate misunderstanding, the promised talk by Yumi did not happen at the last meeting. Yumi kindly agreed to give her presentation at the September meeting instead - we will get valuable information on how to save quite some money on trains in Japan!

2nd try: Kamikochi circuit hike, September 20th-23rd
Hi again!2nd try to go to Kamikochi this year for a real challenging hike: I plan to do the 3-days circuit hike from Kamikochi to Yari and Hotaka with the challenging traverse of the Daikiretto during the September holidays (09/20 to 09/23).
Tentative plan:
- Bus/train from Osaka/Kyoto to Kamikochi, departure Saturday night (September 19th) or Sunday early morning. Depending on the number of participants and availability of buses and trains (some overnight buses don't operate anymore at that time), rental car is another option.
- Hiking from Sunday to Tuesday/Wednesday (allowing for some delay due to bad weather), departure from Kamikochi on Wednesday in the afternoon, return to Kyoto/Osaka in the evening on September 23rd.
- Two options: (1) sleeping in tents or (2) staying at huts (expensive!), depending on their opening times and on people's wishes. Cooking by ourselves.
Since this will be a 4 star event, only members are allowed. A high level of fitness, confidence for hiking on a long and exposed ridge with strong winds, experience in hiking and climbing with heavy gear and full equipment are mandatory.
I also need a co-leader for this trip.
Because of the dangers of hiking the Daikiretto in bad weather, the hiking route will be changed (but still be around Kamikochi) if the conditions are bad.
