Mt. Kongo Hike on Monday February 11th (National Holiday)

This mountain is in the middle of Osaka-Fu and Nara-Ken.  This mountain is supposed to be very popular to climb in the winter, for reasons I don't know but we can find out together!

Stars:  1 1/2
Date:  Monday, February 11th (National Holiday)
Hike Duration:  3 1/2  to 5 hours (see below)
Meet:  9:15am, Kawachi-Nagano Station (Nankai Line)

We will take the 9:30am Nankai Bus from Kawachi-Nagano station.  It will arrive about 10:00am at the base of the mountain.

The hike up Mt. Kongo will take 2 hours.  After another 30 minutes, we can make a decision whether to return back to the base (which would an hour), or extend the hike and go down the other side of the mountain (towards Gojo).  This would take another 2 1/2 hours down, thru some shrines.  If so, we will depart from Kita-Uchi station on the Wakayama line, so please plan accordingly.

We will eat lunch when it's best for everyone.  Somewhere around Noon, but it probably will be quick since it should be cold!

Bring lunch, and suitable clothes (layers suggested). Light rain is OK but I will cancel if the rain should be heavy.  Please let me know if you will attend.
Mini-crampons are strongly recommended. You can buy them at any outdoor shop. There is also a shop which sells them at the trail head.

Cost:
Namba to Kawachi-Nagano (Nankai) - 540 Yen
Nankai Bus - ???
Kita-Uchi (JR Wakayama Line) to Osaka (change at Oji or Takada) - about 1000 Yen

Gallery Night and February Meeting - Sat Feb 23 18:00 - 21:30

Hey everyone,
Just a reminder about Gallery Night...
It's Saturday Feb 23 from 6 to 9:30pm at Nakanoshima Kokaido. The link below works now. The entrance is around the back of the building. We'll be in rooms 7 and 8.

PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN CUPS (or wine glass, if you're posh). Cups will not be provided by the committee.

The committee will provide drinks and pizza.
BUT, we won't provide enough pizza for a full meal or enough drinks to last all night.
You are welcome to bring your own food and drink too.

Sign-up deadline is Thursday Feb 21. Email me to sign up.

Don't forget to bring your photos!!
Also, non-IOC event photos and presentations are ok. If you can, give us some info about how to get there/accomodation etc. That way maybe someone can organise an IOC trip there!

The IOC annual Gallery Night will be held on Saturday February 23 from 6pm.
This is a chance to look at members' photos taken during IOC events over the past year and reminisce about the fun times we had.
So, choose a few of your favourite photos from IOC events, print them out, bring them along and show them off. We vote on the best photos and the winners get prizes.

This is one of the few IOC events where you don't need to wear outdoor clothes...so dress to impress!

Photo categories are:
1. Scenery/landscape
2. Group photo
3. Individual/potrait photo
4. Funny
5. Hardcore outdoor action!

If you want to give a presentation/slide show of your photos, please let me know and we can arrange to have the projector there.

Gallery Night will be held at the same place as last year - Nakanoshima Koukaido, from 6-9:30pm.
To get there, get off at Yodoyabashi station (Midousuji line), take Exit 1 and it's a 5min walk from there. Or it's about a 15min walk from JR Osaka.
