Suma Alps to the Sea saturday Aug.6th

2 stars (about 5 hours of hiking, plus lots of climbing and descending along the way).

Meet: Saturday, August 6.  10am at Kobe Dentetsu (Shintetsu) Hiyodorigoe station.  To get there, take a Hankyu train to Shinkaichi station, transfer to a Kobe Dentetsu train, and then get off at Hiyodorigoe station.

Bring: sunscreen, summer hiking clothes, swimsuit and towel, lunch, drinks.

We'll meet deep in the forest of western Rokko-san, and make our way towards the sea, climbing the three westernmost peaks of the Rokko range on the way.  The first peak is Takatoriyama (328 m), from which we'll descend into the western suburbs of Kobe before regaining the forested slopes of Yokoyama (312 m), then back down to the city before the final trek up the 252 m peak near Suma-ura-park.  From there, we should have great views of Osaka Bay, the Akashi Strait, and the Harima Sea, if the weather is clear.  By that time (we'll have hiked for 4 or 5 hours by then), we should be quite hot, and ready for a quick descent to the ocean for a swim!  We'll have the choice of going to Suma beach (very close, but nasty water) or Maiko beach (smaller and one JR station further away, but much nicer water).  Then we can rest on our laurels, and drift the remainder of the hazy lazy summer afternoon away at the beach and in the water.
