Day Hike, Suma Alps, March 5th

Suma Alps is in the west part of Kobe. As shown by the
name you can enjoy an Alps like rocky mountain.

First, we will climb up to Hataruri-yama where you can expect
a great view of the Akashi bridge. On the top of the mountain
there is a plum-grove park. Now it's in season,
so I think you can enjoy a fragrant of plum flowers there.
After that we will head for the Suma Alps.

Since there are some ups and downs with slippery rocks, it is
a 1.5 stars event.

Bring: a lunch and rain gear.

Ice-skating in Osaka March 12

Date: Saturday, March 12

We'll play around on the ice for a few hours on Saturday afternoon.  Figure-skaters or hockey-players, experienced or not, it's a fun sport, and the season is almost over for the year.  If you don't know how to skate, those of us who think we do will try to help.

Rating: 1 star.

Leader: Jeremy Bricker.  Please contact me at bricker@kobe-u.ac.jp before Friday evening, or y7df767b73cf86h@k.vodafone.ne.jp Friday evening or later.  Phone 080-3773-5187.

If you come early or late, just meet on the ice.  I think the rink closes at 5 pm this Saturday, after which we'll slowly migrate towards the IOC meeting venue.

To get to Osaka Pool, take the Osaka subway's Chuo Line to AsaShioBashi station.  Exit at the station's south/west exit, and follow signs to Osaka Pool.
The pool's entrance is just to the right after you exit the pedestrian overpass.

If you have not skated before, and have wrist guards, they can be helpful, but are not necessary.

IOC Monthly Meeting, Saturday, March 12th

This month’s meeting is guaranteed to be fantastic!  We will have a very special presentation from Chinatsu’s friends, Katsuaki and Izumi.  The title of the presentation is “From Portugal to Korea-Overland With A Tandem Bike.”  Katsuaki and Izumi will be giving a slide show and talk about their incredible 1 ½ year trip across Eurasia by tandem bicycle!  This is one presentation you definitely don’t want to miss!
In addition, March is election time!!!  We will be voting for a whole new committee to take over for the 2005-2006 term.  Have someone in mind you’d like to nominate?  Then please let us know ahead of time, and we can put them on the ballot.  Also, if you’d like to be on the committee this year, by all means, please volunteer!  Remember, the club can’t run itself!  WE NEED YOU TO VOLUNTEER TO BE ON THE COMMITTEE!  Due to the important nature of the elections, we hope to have a 100% turn out for the March meeting.  Of course, we will also have the usual update on club events and issues, and we will all be going out afterwards for the usual food and drinks!  See you at the March meeting!

Hanatouro 2nd round!- March 20th, Sunday!

I missed the last Sunday's Hanatouro but I am still willing to walk
to the Kyoto's most historical temples and shrines lit by thousands of candles at night!!
It is very popular and can be crowed.  I plan to enter either Koudaiji or Chionin.
This is the final chance for those who also missed the last Sunday's.
A few people already decided to go together on this Sunday, 20th.
After walking a few hours, why don't we go for dinner in Izakaya or somewhere we like?

PAINTBALLING - Saturday March 26th

-------- Cancel due to Snow ---------------------------------------

If tearing madly through woodlands, brandishing paintballs guns, and shooting wildly at anything that moves is your idea of fun, then this
is the event for you!

LOCATION
Alpex Paintball Field in Hikone-shi, Shiga Prefecture.

WHAT TO WEAR
You can wear whatever you like, but remember that you will be running
around a forest and people will shoot paint at you. The paint washes
off
easily and wont stain. However it is easy to tear or stain your clothes
in
the bushes. Also for camouflage reasons, anything too
bright and chearful may not be the best strategy. The staff at the
paintball field suggest the following :- all-terrain boots/trainers,
long
sleeved tops and long trousers, headcover (eg. bandana/baseball cap),
gloves, change of clothes for after the game.

OTHER THINGS TO BRING
Please bring lunch/snacks/drinks as the field is in a wooded area and
there are no convenience stores nearby.

OTHER INFORMATION
- This is a one star event - you don't need to have played before, just
be up for having some fun and getting very dirty!
- There are strict safety rules which I will pass onto you when you
sign
up.

After we have exhausted all our ammunition and energy, we will be
dropped back in Hikone, where we can compare bruises over dinner and a
few pints (or tequila's?).

HOW TO SIGN UP
Please email me at ruthgoodridge@fusemail.com

Leader : Ruth Goodridge (ruth.g) | send e-mail

Meet :
MEETING
We will be meeting at Hikone Station on Biwa Lake JR Line, from where
there is a free bus to the field at 9.20am. If coming by train you need
to
get the train that leaves from Osaka at 7.59 and from Kyoto at 8.28
(arrives in Hikone at 9.17). If you are intending to drive, please let
me
know and I will send you directions.
