IOC Monthly Meeting, Saturday, Feb. 5th

The February meeting is bound to be action-packed!
Kevin Bradshaw will be giving another fantastic slideshow presentation on his many hikes in Japan.  This month’s presentation is entitled, “Hyuaku Mei Zan” (The 100 Famous Mountains Of Japan).  Kevin just recently finished hiking 52 of them!  Way to go Kevin!  We all look forward to hearing about his hiking adventures and progress towards hiking all 100!
In addition to Kevin’s presentation, we will have the usual update on upcoming club events and discuss any club issues.
Finally, after the meeting, we will be having a very special “Sayonara Party” for one of our active members.  Ivan Breen is leaving Japan in the middle of February to return to his hometown in Seattle, U.S.A.  He’d like to say goodbye and thank you to everyone in the IOC.  He really appreciates everyone who has made his past two years in Japan a wonderful, adventurous, and exciting experience.  This will be the last time Ivan can see everyone before his departure, so he really hopes you all can make it!  Please mark it on your calendar!    We hope to see you all at the February meeting!

Skiing/Snowboarding Trip, Hakodateyama (II), Feb. 26-27

After having so much fun last month, we've decided a return trip to Hakodateyama is in order. If you missed out on the trip in January, you can find details of the resort at:
English :
http://www.snowjapan.com/e/resorts/resortdetail.php?resid=173

Japanese :http://www.princehotels.co.jp/ski/hakodateyama/course.html

BASIC PLAN
From Omiimazu station we will get the bus to the resort, ski/snowboard
all
day (there is hot food/snacks available at the resort, or you can bring
your own lunch), head to the minshuku for dinner and drinks, then get
some
much needed kip before a second day on the slopes.

RAIL/LIFT PASS
More details of the pass can be found at
http://www.jr-odekake.net/navi/sspass/

If you can't come for both days, its close enough to just go for the one.
However there is little difference in the cost of the one and two day rail/lift passes, so it's best to pair up with someone else who is also only going for one day.

OTHER INFORMATION
A one star event, suitable for all abilities. If you've never
skied/snowboarded before there are lessons available (in Japanese).

HOW TO SIGN UP
If you'd like to join us, or if you want any more details, please
email - Fiona (Fiona_Charnley@yahoo.com.au) or Ruth
(ruthgoodridge@fusemail.com). We need to book the minshuku so please
let
us know as soon as possible if you would like to come. Also the passes
must be booked at least 4 days in advance if you want to take advantage
of
all the discounts available on ski rental etc.
