Events October 2005
2005-10-01 07:00:00 - 2005-10-01 18:00:00 | Hiking **1/2Buna-ga-take hike Saturday, Oct 1st
2.5 stars. We'll be ascending the Yatsubuchinotaki waterfalls in a canyon on the north side of Hira.
We'll hike from Gulliver s Travels Village (about 100 m above sea level) up to Buna-ga-take (about 1300 m above sea level), the highest peak in the Hira-san range.
The trail will take us through mixed deciduous and coniferous forest, and near the summit we'll get fine views of Lake Biwa, the forests, mountains, and fields of Shiga and Kyoto prefectures, and the Ibuki-san range.
If the weather is rainy, we'll face mysterious scenes of lush green mountains
cloaked in fog, with torrents of clouds rushing through the valleys below us.
This hike is a little technically difficult (some scrambling on rocks, and climbing up waterfalls with chains and ladders), and there is about a 1000 m elevation gain and drop, and the walking will last about 8 hours at a good pace.
Therefore, this hike is okay for beginners, but only if you are in good physical shape.
Bring:
sunscreen, raincoat/windbreaker, warm shirt, lunch, snacks, and at least 1.5L of drinks. onsen kit. Also, because of snakes and leeches, bring long pants and shirtsleeves, along with boots and socks.
Meet:
8:52am at OmiTakaShima station on the JR KoSei Line, in Shiga Prefecture.
There is a KoSei (west lake) Line ShinKaiSoku (Special Rapid Service) train that
departs JR Kobe station at 7:19am, Osaka at 7:45am, Kyoto at 8:14am, and arrives
at OmiTakaShima station at 8:52am. I'll ride in the front car of that train.
We'll take a bus from OmiTakaShima at 9am, so you can't be late.

you can just walk south towards the river and follow the river to your

Expect the game to last 2-3 hours. No previous experience is needed and
we'll practice throwing the frisbee before playing.
Bring a frisbee if you have one. The game involves a lot of running so
dress accordingly and bring water. Also, bring both a white and colored
