Happy New Year! What better way to welcome in the New Year than by seeing old friends and making new ones at the IOC monthly meeting! This month we are scheduled to have two great holiday presentations. We’ll have a fascinating presentation by Kaori on her recent trip to Thailand followed by an amazing presentation by Koji on his trip to Hawaii over the New Year. In addition, we’ll be discussing the upcoming winter events, chatting about any pressing club issues, and of course, going out for food and drinks afterwards. New Year's Nabe Party, Saturday, Jan. 22nd
Happy New Year Everyone! Let's all welcome in 2005 by having a wonderful duck nabe party on Sat, Jan. 22nd! We'll be having it on top of the mountain near Myokenguchi station on the Nose. This is the same place we went to last year which is just outside of Osaka. The hike to the top is two hours. Once we reach the top, we'll all work together to cook a wonderful nabe while enjoying great views, good company, and of course, wonderful Japanese "nihonshu!"To sign up, please e-mail Shinobu at specialevent@IOCkansai.com by Wed. Kobe Hike, Saturday, Jan 29th
How do you spend winter weekends? Staying at home in a Kotatu?What a waste of time! You can enjoy a greater view in this season.
I think winter is the best season to enjoy a view from mountain.
With less leaves on trees and cold air, everything stands out in sharp relief.
This time, we will hike from the west side of Rokko. We will meet at the Shintetsu line Hiyodorigoe station at 11:00am. Hike up to Kikusui-Yama, have a lunch on the top, then go down to Sannomiya area.
Walking time is about 4-5 hours.
As usual, I plan to go to a public bath and have a dinner afterwards.
To get to the Hiyodorigoe station, you need to take the Hankyu line or the Hanshin line and transfer to the Shintetsu line at the Shinkaichi station. It takes about an hour from the Umeda station.
Bring a lunch, warm clothes, and rain gear in case.

Snowshoe Trip, Sunday, January 30th
It's snowshoe season again! Let's go play in the snow! The destination isn't confirmed yet, but will probably be Mount Hira in Shiga prefecture, next to Lake Biwa. You'll need warm clothes for the snow, hat & gloves of course, sturdy hiking boots, and food and snacks. If you have one, a camp stove for hot drinks etc. would be useful.
